leaves

fall is that time of year that you finally get a break from the summer heat. you can still play outside. you get to walk, run and stomp through the leaves, which is quite fun....until you have to pick them up. then you wonder why they planted (in my case) maples and not pine trees. but no matter what, i'm glad they planted those trees 20+ years ago.

in october our front yard looked like this:

then november came..... and more leaves decided to come to rest on the ground.

when i sun decided to show it's self, we would go out and play in the leaves. sometimes quincey would join us outside. if she was already asleep in her bed, then i would just leave her there and would just come inside to check on her.

look at all those leaves! while sterling played, i would rake the leaves in to piles. i knew that the day would come when i would have to rake them up anyway. i might as well get a head start.

then the prediction came.... snow for the next 10 days. so on nov 12th, we spent most of the day raking, piling and hauling leaves. our front yard started to look like this:

sterling and quincey were having lunch so andrew did a lot of raking until i could come out and help him haul them to the pile. after lunch, both kids came back outside. sterling wouldn't leave on his hat or mittens or gloves, so i finally took him inside and put on winnie to pooh. since he hadn't seen it before, i knew that he would most likely stay out of trouble. quincey was wrapped up in her car seat outside. she promptly fell asleep.

andrew raking a little bit more. since the cottonwood still has a lot of it's leaves, we didn't bother raking up the leaves under it.

it had "snowed" on and off on the 12th. then during the next week, we got some more snow. i finally got outside to get a picture of our leave pile. grandma, bring beav's truck, you're welcome to all the leaves you can fit into it!

That's a lot of leaves! Wow. I love fall and one of my most favorite things to do is crunch through the leaves in the fall. But I have to admit that I'm glad I don't have that many leaves to rake up. I hope you were able to get pretty much everything before it snowed! We missed some of ours and we probably won't be able to get them up. Oh, well. :)
