curtains

we have been meaning to get curtains for our 4 big windows for a long time. but it's hard to find curtains that you like for windows that are (roughly) 4.5' x 6.5'.  so these curtains came from bed bath and beyond. while, they are suppose to be room darkening, most people in the reviews didn't say that they were. they also had bought lighter colored curtains. but that's not what we wanted them for anyway. this winter was super super expensive to heat the house. while i can't tell you how exactly off the top my head....to give you can idea... take the cost of diesel per gallon and multiply it by 100. that number is what our heating bill was each month or so.  while we will NOT be heating with diesel this coming winter... we decided that once we got our money back from the government, we would use it for our curtains. 

we decided to go with a maroon color. we just hung them up on one window this week. i need to go back to lowe's to get 3 more rods and the hold backs. we haven't decided which way we would like to hang them. above you can see them closed. on the left you can see we used the clips. on the right, we just put the curtain on the rod.

clips:  

pro: easy to open and close. looks nicer when the curtains are open

con: we aren't crazy about how they look when closed. sterling can pull the curtains out of the clips.

no clips:

pro: we like the look better when they are closed. 

con: harder to open and close.
