when we don't have a lot of milk left we always make cream of wheat. that way we all get a good breakfast and not just one person gets to use all the milk. this morning was one such morning. i had sent andrew a text to get milk, but he didn't check his phone until he got home last night. his punishment was that he had to get out of bed and make cream of wheat for us.
during elementary school, my dad would always make cream of wheat for me for breakfast. i would sit at the table and listen to NPR while eating. i would use the brown sugar that was put on top sparingly so that my last bite could be full of sugar.
andrew made it once on the stove and i thought "this is different from what i had as a child...." but it was pretty good. cream of wheat is hard to make in a microwave. i used to make it for sterling and would put more milk in it in the end to 1) cool it down faster and 2) thin it out a little. he finally got tired of it and so it was a while before we ate it again. we love it and after this morning, i think sterling could eat a serving by himself! andrew eats a serving and i eat a little less than that. oh, a serving is 3 tablespoons of dry cereal.
andrew likes honey in his, i don't mind that, but prefer brown sugar. sterling gets brown sugar too since he's not suppose to have honey. (though he does in other cereals) we don't like to make it with all water. all milk is good, but then you have to watch it real close so it doesn't burn. so we mix the two and then you don't have to watch it quite as close.
oh how we love that yummy stuff!
